Challenge

University Hospital Magdeburg faced the challenge of modernizing imaging for interventional procedures. The previously used setup with two 23-inch monitors was no longer sufficient to meet the increased demands for image size, number of sources, and display flexibility. The goal was to find a customizable and future-proof solution that would equally meet the needs of all user groups involved.

Solution

Together with MTSE, EIZO developed a tailored concept to optimize imaging. At the center is the EIZO RadiForce LL580W, a 58-inch monitor with 4K UHD resolution, complemented by the Large Monitor Manager LMM0802 for signal distribution. The solution enables the simultaneous display of up to eight image sources and intuitive operation via the touch interface on the EIZO CID1201P. Different layouts can be configured and saved according to user preferences.

Result

The new solution provides significantly improved overview, greater flexibility in display, and enhanced process safety during procedures. Physicians can now use different layouts and image sources as needed, without limitations from screen size or technical constraints. The system is also already prepared for future requirements, such as live transmission to lecture halls.

Limited Imaging Complicates Complex Interventional Procedures

The previous imaging setup for interventional procedures at University Hospital Magdeburg was based on two 23-inch monitors, which displayed the live feed from the interventional CT as well as PACS images. However, this configuration no longer met current requirements for clarity and flexibility. The screen size was insufficient for complex procedures, and there was no possibility to display additional image sources. In addition, there was a desire for customizable layouts for different users and a future-proof solution that could potentially support additional functionalities, such as streaming for educational purposes.

8-Inch 4K Monitor and Smart Layout Control Enhance Imaging

To meet the increased demands, University Hospital Magdeburg, MTSE, and EIZO jointly developed a comprehensive solution. The centerpiece is the large-format EIZO RadiForce LL580W monitor with a 58-inch diagonal and 4K UHD resolution, providing ample space for multiple simultaneously displayed image sources. The distribution and management of video signals is handled by the EIZO Large Monitor Manager LMM0802. Using an intuitive touch interface (EIZO CID1201P), different layouts can be flexibly configured, saved, and easily recalled by each user. In total, up to eight image sources can be displayed simultaneously. Additionally, the system is already connected to a streaming component, ensuring that future requirements, such as image transmission to lecture halls, are technically covered.

Optimized Imaging Provides Better Overview and Ergonomic Benefits

With the new solution, both image quality and display flexibility have been significantly improved. The larger screen area provides a much better overview during procedures. At the same time, the distance between physician and monitor can be increased, offering ergonomic benefits. By allowing different layouts to be created, each user can tailor the system to their individual workflow. The system’s ease of use and quick adaptability to various requirements are particularly appreciated. Daily medical routines benefit from more efficient workflows, enhanced patient safety, and an improved basis for decision-making. User satisfaction confirms the quality of the implementation.
